Every December 31st , 2.5 million people gather at Copacabana Beach to celebrate New Year's in Rio de Janeiro.
The crowd, all dressed in white, parties all night at the hundreds of different shows and events along the beach.
The highlight of New Year's Eve in Rio is the spectacular fireworks display on Copacabana Beach. Seeing 2,000,000 people all dressed in white along the beach, which is filled with candles, is unforgettable.
Many 'cariocas' also make floral offerings to Yemanja, the goddess of the sea, that carries the wishes for the future. There are also Afro beach rituals, colouring the sand.
Light, colour and music. A giant beach party celebrates the turn of the year, when Rio in all the splendour of its summer high season becomes one of the most enchanting spots in the world.
